The Final Series inbetween Minnesota Frost and Ottawa Charge started up May 20 with the first game of the series! As expected it became a thriller and the winner could not been decide before heading into overtime.

The game started up with a battle of who’s gonna be in charge of the game and be the puck possession team leading the pace ofthe game. Both teams created several good scoring chances to be ahead, but with brilliant play from the teams defence and goalies, there was no scoring in the first period.

In the second period Ottawa took charge and showed the importance of home turf when Leslie found the net and put Ottawa up 1-0. Continiously the game was going back and forward furuns the second period and the teams took turns of finding good scoring opportunities. As the game proceeded it became more and more intense and the emotions started to take over, which led to some penalties, but neither team could succeed in the powerplay and hometeam Ottawa could step of the ice with a 1-0 lead after 40 minutes played.

As the third period started, you could definately see that Minnesota was on a mission with only one thing in mind- to equal the score of the game… and 5.24 into the third Hymlárová managed to find the back of the net to tie the game scoring the 1-1 goal. After the equalizer the game became a little bit more about defense and the teams was more of a mindset to minimize the mistakes. Although both teams had some opportunities to close the game, the keepers did not let another puck pass them and the game winner had to be decided in overtime.

Early in the 1st overtime Emily Clark picked up a a loose puck at defensive blueline after a poor play in a Minnesota turnover, skated along the left side into offense zone and released a random shoot from a rough angle that found it’s way all the way to the net and became the hero of the day for Ottawa, putting her team up 1-0 in the series.

The second game of the Walter Cup finals is played tonight and the puck drops at 7.00 PM EDT.
